27/2/23: First time working on a live page by myself
After working on a live page (Londoner’s Diary) for the first time the week prior, I took it upon myself to try and do it by myself. That day, the editor was in the office, and I was sat away from the other designers, so I had to be more independent. I worked closely with the editor to see what pictures he wanted and where they should go. After he told me, I worked quickly and independently to get the page finished. At the end, the other art directors looked over the page also, and made some tweaks on details that I had missed – for example, having a 4mm gutter between image and text, and aligning tops of images to the x height of the text rather than a baseline, so optically it looks aligned.
It was quite challenging, and I was nervous that I would do something wrong as I was working by myself. But it was a good experience and I really enjoyed having the responsibility.
